Bottled water may seem like the healthy option, but more and more, we are seeing that it's perhaps far from it.

It's no secret that we're not big fans of bottled water. They're not great for the environment, and now we are finding out that they're perhaps not great for our bodies. Of course, we are not for denying anyone water, so if you need to do it, we get it.

So what's the deal?

We all need water, but when you need water, you're likely not going to find the nearest stream and just have at it. Because quality and potency matter. After all, you don't want to make yourself sick just to get some hydration. Bottled water has become so prevalent because it gives you that, certified clean water anywhere.

With water quality reports becoming more accessible and water quality problems in our country making headline news, we all know that water quality isn't something to take for granted. So, we totally understand why bottled water is a thing. (And that's just talking about our country.)

While you can recycle bottled water, most users don't. So they end up in landfills, or on the side of a highway, or in a creek, and inevitably in the ocean. Which is not only bad for us, but it's bad for the many ecosystems that live there.

Apart from that, we are now seeing more news findings report that the quality of bottled water isn't actually what we thought it was. So the real reason to use bottled water (for the assured quality) doesn't seem to be a guarantee anymore.

In the News

Most recently, Real Water was linked to liver failure in a handful of young children, ranging from 7 months to 5 years old. After doing more digging, the person responsible for alkalizing the water had no real relevant experience to do so. They were not a chemist, and were trained for only a couple hours on how to add the proper concentration to water. While that's not on the individual, it is on the company and its lackadaisical safety measures. To read the full article, click here.

It makes us wonder how the safety of bottled water is being measured, and this is just one story of many unfortunately.

The Takeaway

They say if you want something done well, do it yourself. And by that, we mean do your research and filter your water yourself.

Of course, most bottled water will not induce adverse side effects, and again, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. But, if given the option, the choice feels pretty easy to us.

It's better for the planet, for your body, and for your wallet to filter your own water. Need filtered water on the go? Check out our reusable filtered water bottles. We have options so that clean water is always close, and without the negative environmental impact.
